I’m going to make a make-shift parasol to go with my Lolita outfit. I brought 3m of black lace to go round the umbrella as trimming.

Does anyone know what would be the best way to attach the lace to the umbrella without damaging/ripping the umbrella fabric?
Cat M
I'd go with handstitching using a nice thin needle. My guess is that a running stitch would do. I'd also do it with umbrella extended up and out.

I'd do what Cat M suggested. Sew it on while open - place it on the table or stick the shaft in a bucket/bin perhaps. Handsew with a running stitch, and not put the stitching too tight.

*Googles "running stitch"* Ahhh, cool! Thanks for the advice, I shall give it a go and let you know how it turns out smile.gif

3m of lace and a few hours later it's finally finishes *wipes sweat from her brow*. happy.gif

Awesome. If you don't put up pics before hand remind me to take a special photo just of your parasol!

yay, I can't wait to see pictures. The hand sewing takes ages with something this tricky to manipulate.

LOL! It's not that flash, just an old black umbrella with lace trimming tongue.gif It's rather big come to thing of it... Not as big as a golf umbrella though... I hope it looks ok with my outfit wacko.gif

Well that seems to have turned out rather nicely smile.gif

Wow! That turned out really nice. Much better than I thought considering you said it was just a plain old umbrella. I think it was definately worth your effort. (I'm having a closer look at the meetup)

Thanks happy.gif

oh, very nice!!

I'm planning to do the same thing but with white lace. I'm also going to attempt to put a second row of lace higher up along the arch of my umbrella. I'm a little worried that it might do strange things to the fabric since it's already under a bit of tension. :/
